ImpactMaps
Smart decisions with AI geoanalytics
Our ImpactMaps AI Solution opens up completely new perspectives for regional analysis in geoanalytics.
The solution can be used to identify and tap into the potential of developing regions particularly efficiently, for example:
-
Identification of abandoned raw material mines, environmental burdens, and their remediation
-
Use of solar energy: finding the best spots, automated quantification of investment volume and ROI
-
New uses for contaminated sites, e.g., energy crops to combat erosion, for mobile communications, and logistics.
In collaboration with the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and the European Space Agency (ESA), which provided financial support for this project, the benefits of the ImpactMaps AI Solution were thoroughly tested and proven in Plateau State, Nigeria.

Identifying development potential in a smart way
Information is analyzed and visualized on a completely new level.
By using specially developed metrics based on artificial intelligence (AI), abandoned mining sites, for example, can be precisely identified and evaluated. This intelligent data processing opens up new possibilities for use and creates previously untapped development potential.

The smart system
A major cost driver in smart geoanalytics is primarily high-resolution images from commercial satellites (e.g., Maxar, Planet Labs). In addition, geodata, sensor data, weather data, and socioeconomic data also drive up the cost of analytics.
We therefore rely on a customized combination to solve our customers' challenges, because it is not always necessary to process the most expensive data.
With our “smart spending” approach, we achieve results that are significantly cheaper than other geoanalytics solutions. In addition, according to our customers, the results are significantly better with our AI metrics.
Precise detection
AI algorithms analyze high-resolution satellite images, historical data, and geological information to determine the location, size, and nature of abandoned mines.
New concepts for use
The insights gained enable the development of sustainable alternatives—such as converting brownfield sites into solar parks, agricultural land, or ecological refuges.
Intelligent networking of information
The combination of demographics, spatial planning, and logistics with AI-supported geoanalytics creates a holistic basis for future-oriented site development.
Sustainability and resource conservation
The revitalization and repurposing of former mining sites not only protects the environment, but also promotes economic growth – in line with social and ecological goals.
Featured on TV/radio/press
ImpactMaps AI Solution has attracted attention in many media outlets as a digital innovation. It has been featured in the main news in Nigeria and in various publications in Germany. It was also presented at the Africa Economic Forum “Entering the Market in the Continent of Opportunity” organized by the Ulm Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Karlsruhe Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the University of Applied Sciences in Neu-Ulm/Germany.
ImpactMaps Nigeria
ImpactMaps Nigeria is currently operated as a joint venture (JV) between Itomatics GmbH from Germany as the technical partner and Abuzoe Investments Limited from Nigeria to characterize abandoned mining sites in Plateau State (essentially the collection of geodata for recultivation purposes and to identify alternative uses for these recultivated sites) using satellite imagery and analysis technology.
The results of using this technology, particularly in identifying potential sites for solar energy, have attracted considerable interest from Nigerian federal government ministries (for planning and regional development), authorities and agencies for solar energy, and other projects such as agricultural development, irrigation, and environmental monitoring and control.
